Healthy, Disabled, or Dead?

David Burchard Doctrine Leave a Comment

Is man born good, and then corrupted by his environment?

Is man born disabled, crippled, not killed, by sin, needing to cooperate with God in order to be saved from his plight?

Or is man born radically bad, dead in sin, unable to respond to God in any way that pleasing to him, needing God to do all the work of salvation all on his own?

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. Ephesians 2:1-3

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. Romans 6:20

Because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:7-8

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Psalm 51:5

My friend, all men are born in sin, dead in sin, and unable to do good in the eyes of God, even unable to respond rightly to the gospel call to repentance and faith in Christ.

Salvation must wholly, monergistically, be the work of God, or there is no salvation for the likes of you and me.
