Revelation 1:5-6 – To Reign With Christ

Sean Kinnally Revelation

Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen:

Rev 1:5-6

It is Jesus who has loved us. And he loved us by washing us from our sins in his own blood.

Apart from the blood of Jesus, there will be no plea for any man before God. God is holy, holy, holy. All men have sinned and fallen short of his glory. We must be covered, we must be washed in the blood of Jesus, if we are to have right standing before God, if we are to have peace with God.

In washing us with his own blood, Jesus has made us kings and priests unto God and his Father. Christians rule with Christ (Eph 1:20-22, Col 1:13).

Eph 1:20-22

“Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body the fullness of him that filleth all in all.”

Eph 2:4-6

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

Ruling and Reigning

What does it mean to be seated with Christ? Christ is seated at the right hand of the Almighty, and from this seat he is ruling and reigning. From this seat his enemies are being put under his feet. Us being seated with Christ means that we are now, as Christians on this earth, reigning along with him.

Jesus paid our penalty for sin and freely gave of the rights and privileges that come with his perfect fulfillment of all of God’s righteous commands. We share in Christ’s kingship, we share in his dominion. As Paul says to the Ephesians, in Christ we have obtained an inheritance. We now rule with Christ.

This dominion of Christ will increase across the world (Rev. 5:9-10).

Rev 5:9-10

“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”

Kings and Priests

As God redeems his people from every tribe, tongue, and nation across the earth, he will be making more and more saints to be kings and priests. More and more people ruling and reigning with Christ, seated in the heavenly places in Him.

To him, that is, Jesus, be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Though we reign with Christ, though we are active participants in the accomplishing of God’s purposes, it is all from him and through him and for Him. It is ultimately his dominion, and all glory is due to him alone. Amen.
